MINNESOTA VINYARDS WE TOUR
Cannon River Winery – Cannon Falls, MN
It started with a dream and a strong desire to create Minnesota wines that taste extraordinary and whose quality is equal to, or better, than those from other great wine-producing regions across the world.
Nestled among the lush, rolling hills of Minnesota’s picturesque Sogn Valley, Cannon River Winery’s Vineyard is home to more than 9,000 vines on 40 acres of land. Selected for its ideal soils, high elevation, and south-facing slopes, our Vineyard provides all of the qualities needed for excellent grapes, and in turn, delicious, award winning wines crafted by hand in our nearby Winery in downtown Cannon Falls.
From the vine to your glass, we take painstaking care in every step of the winemaking process to ensure that our wines meet your highest expectations.
At harvest time, we hand pick our grapes when they’re at the peak of ripeness, which preserves the integrity of the fruit and leads to the highest quality wine. Then, our experienced winemakers masterfully blend each varietal with complex flavors to suit even the most discerning palates. Balanced dry whites and sumptuous full-bodied reds round out our extensive wine selection.
Just a short drive from the Twin Cities and Rochester, we invite you to visit our winery and taste our passion for perfection in every single drop.

Wine Haven – Chisago City, MN
Founded as Chisago County's first estate winery in 1995, WineHaven has become a cornerstone of Minnesota winemaking, producing highly acclaimed wines that capture the distinctive flavors of its vineyards and region. The Peterson family represents four generations of stewardship to the land and five distinct vineyards in the Chisago Lakes Area.
For all of us who put so much of ourselves into Winehaven, it's more than our work - it's our home. That's how we try to welcome you - as a guest in a home we love, and are eager for you to love, too. We are proud of our unique array of wines, some of which are from grape varieties that are not grown elsewhere in the world. We are honored to introduce you to our wines while sharing the panoramic views of the lakes and hillside vineyards where our family continues to live, work and play.
Alexis Bailly Vineyard – Hastings, MN
In 1973, our family planted the first vineyard in Minnesota with a pioneering spirit that has brought us unlikely fame in the wine drinking world.
Our tasting room opened in 1978 with the celebratory release of the first wines ever produced commercially of 100% Minnesota grown grapes.
Today, the second generation of our family continues this proud heritage of making wines in the world's most difficult climate – "Where the grapes can suffer."
WINE......Ohhh So Good!
Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, as well as Sunday afternoons, May through September (with additional weekends for fall and Christmas, see below), enjoy a glass of wine and a pasta dinner among the vines in an outdoor setting nestled in the heart of the Rush River Valley. You’ll take in the sites of the emerging vineyard while dining on Italian nachos, gourmet pizzas, pasta, and sipping area made wine in addition to wines from all over the world. After dinner, take a stroll around the vineyard, along the river, and relax near one of the bonfires.
Eighteen years ago, lunch at Sorrento Cucina in Minneapolis, Derick Dahlen was introduced to restaurant owners Rosette and Maria. Originally from Calabria, Italy, Rosette and Maria were childhood friends who delighted in giving people the experience of savoring mealtime – something Derick grew to cherish. This experience led to a lifelong friendship.
Over the years, Rose and husband Umberto introduced the Dahlen family in the ongoing celebration of life, featured by bountiful, boisterous family gatherings. Through this friendship, the Dahlens met Rosina and Martino, owners of a small farm and vineyard in Zagarollo, Italy. The Dahlens' experienced the romance and pure joy that comes with making something by hand and sharing it with friends. It was an experience they soon recognized would be their own one day.
The friendship and generosity continues and grows between the families. They visit each other when they can, to continue the celebration of the good things in life–great food, wine and even better friendships.

Buffalo Rock Winery – Buffalo, MN
Who doesn't want to create something for themselves? My dream was to open up a winery, so I did it! Opening Buffalo Rock Winery in 2010 was truly a dream come true. With a passion for wine and an even greater desire to spend more time with my children, owning a winery on my property made for a great fit. I'm frequently asked what was the motivation behind starting a winery? Facetiously, I'd respond with, "insanity." After all, who starts up a business when she already has a great job outside of the home, albeit over forty miles away, and also has two kids under two years of age? The answer? Me! However, the real response for my motivation IS my kids. The next best thing to being a full-time mom is to work "from home" in order to spend more time with my family! So, during the summer of 2009, while looking ahead to my first grape harvest and on maternity leave with a colic baby, I knew I had to make my dream a reality. And I knew I had to do it then or I'd miss too many precious moments in my childrens' young lives if I continued to keep the winery idea on the back burner and didn't start the gears in motion for my new venture! That was when I went from a home vintner to establishing a commercial winery, Buffalo Rock Winery (Dietman Vineyard & Winery, LLC).
Millner Heritage Vineyard & Winery – Kimball, MN
Here at Millner Heritage Vineyard & Winery, we grow nine acres of grapes (about 5,000 vines.) We grow eight different varieties bred by either Elmer Swenson or the University of Minnesota. Frontenac, Frontenac Gris, Marquette, Brianna, Prairie Star, Valiant, Kay Gray and Sabrevois.
The vineyard is really where the wine is made. It has been said so many times, “you cannot make good wine from bad grapes.” This is a simple truth of wine making. So, it is here where the hard work has to be put in all summer long and weather willing, with a good harvest in the fall, the wine maker can make great wine. Good wine starts with good grapes.
The first vines we planted were in 2006, and every year up to 2009, we added another block of vines until we achieved our nine acres. It would be nice to have 100% of our wines come from just our grapes, but because of customers, possibly like you, our vineyard cannot quench our customers thirst. So, we do have a few other growers in Minnesota growing the same or similar varieties as well.
Parley Lake Winery – Waconia, MN
With both couples interest and appreciation for wine and grapes, its was only natural that chance meeting on the paddle tennis court would keep Lin and Steve in contact over the years.
Lin, along with his wife Bonnie, continued growing and selling a variety of apples, including the Honeycrisp Apple at Deardorff Orchards which they began in 1981. Steve and Deb both continued working their daytime jobs at Rosemount and spent a couple years abroad in Germany.
Meanwhile, a few miles from Deardorff Orchards, the University of Minnesota was developing cold hardy Minnesota grapes. The Frontenac grape was introduced in 1996, La Crescent in 2002, Frontenac Gris in 2003 and Marquette in 2006. As more varieties were introduced so grew the number of wineries in Minnesota. And in 2005, the Deardorffs and Zellers began planting cold hardy grapes that in three years would become the wine for Parley Lake Winery (named after the lake that is adjacent to the property).
Today, the vineyard consists of seven acres made up of the Marquette grape, Frontenac grape, Frontenac Gris grape and La Crescent grape. Parley Lake Winery will also be planting the Itasca grape, introduced by the University of MN in 2016. Wine from this grape will be on the tasting menu in 2020.
Sovereign Estates Winery – Waconia, MN
The focus of this tour is on our outstanding wines! A personal presentation with an experienced wine associate will give you a new appreciation for Minnesota made wines. This reservation includes a sample of 5 wines, a souvenir glass and a tour of the facility. Limited to 12 guests per time slot.
Schram Vineyards Winery & Brewery – Waconia, MN
In October 2006, when Aaron first met Ashley at an Oktoberfest party in Minneapolis, he told her of his lifelong dream to start a vineyard and winery the night they met. As a native Wisconsin farm-boy, Aaron had started making wine in college for fun and continued this hobby when he moved to Minneapolis for work in the corporate world. Ashley, an uptown girl, and wine lover soon found that his passion and ambition about this venture was contagious…enough for her to trade in her heels for rubber boots. The two set out to chase the dream together.
In 2008, while both still working full time jobs in the city, they found a little slice of heaven in Waconia, with a serene lake view, and fields perfect for growing grapes. They started a family, and so the adventure began: 5 years, 2 kids, 2 dogs, 4,000 grapevines, and countless projects later, the winery opened to the public in the summer of 2013, with their first commercial vintages under their outdoor pavilion bar.
When Aaron discovered from a friend and beer enthusiast that they had a lot of equipment to brew beer as well, he turned to Ashley and said, “We should start a brewery too.” Considering how they met, it was meant to be. A brewery crew was carefully selected, their recipes perfected, and the brewery launched in June 2014, making Schram Vineyards the first singly owned and operated winery & brewery in Minnesota.
The brand new tasting and tap room, complete with wine cellar, was built and completed in the fall of 2014. The last decade has been a whirlwind of constant activity, projects and growth, which could not have all been done without the support of friends, family, staff, and customers.
Schram Vineyards Winery & Brewery is becoming known as a must-stop destination spot where guests can taste and appreciate a variety of quality and serious wines alongside distinctive craft brews, all made right on-site. The Schram family still lives at the vineyard with their children, so if you see them walking around in their rubber boots, say hello!
Crow River Winery – Hutchinson, MN
The Crow River Winery and vineyards is one of the premiere Minnesota Farm Wineries, located 2 miles east of Hutchinson, Minnesota, in the middle of the Crow River Watershed on the edge of the great Minnesota prairie region.
Since we began our project in 2004, the Crow River Winery staff has nurtured five vineyards near Hutchinson, growing Minnesota Cold Climate grapes. We practice sustainable agriculture while growing grapes, hard neck garlic and pumpkins.
Locals and visitors have adopted the winery as a favorite venue for celebrations. It has beautiful facilities for weddings, anniversary parties, corporate events, fundraisers and all types of community revelry. We look forward to seeing you soon.
